British Association of Removers (BAR)

Defining user journeys for website success

The challenge

As the recognised voice of the professional moving industry, the British Association of Removers is dedicated to promoting professional excellence in removals. However, the integration of several disparate sub-group websites a year earlier proved to be a challenging task; and while the merger was successfully completed, feedback from key stakeholders soon after launch revealed that the new site was not fully meeting its goals in terms of design, user experience, content, and language.

Putting the customer first

We set out to make the website more engaging and user-centred by asking three key questions: Who will use this site? Why are they here? How will they use it? The answers provided firm foundations for creating a better multi-user experience—one that is intuitive, informative, and ultimately meets users’ needs.

To achieve this, we revised the content: paring some sections down, adding new material, and re-ordering and rewriting others to create more of a cohesive narrative. A website works best when it reads like a story—something people are naturally hard-wired to respond to and engage with. We also refined the language, removing industry jargon and replacing it with more conversational text.

Finally, by combining insights from previous site analytics with the updated content, we were able to implement a more effective SEO strategy.

The results

The new website significantly improved user engagement, making it easier for visitors to access relevant content and quickly find the information they needed. Ongoing management and a subsequent design iteration delivered a cleaner, more modern interface, further enhancing usability. In addition, the introduction of a “find a mover” function provided users with a direct, streamlined way to connect with the right moving company, resulting in higher satisfaction and increased service uptake.

Wow, that looks different! The new style and feel, really wants you to engage and I think this will now give the two functional groups more confidence. This is a massive step forward, and well done to all involved.
